It is a clean, pollution free city, with parks, rivers, beaches and other recreational facilities providing the opportunity for outdoor activities. Because of its size, it is an area of enormous contrasts, from the temperate forests of the south, through to the arid goldfields of the centre to the tropical grandeur of the north. Not only is it big, but it is old, perhaps the oldest land on Earth. Isolation from the rest of the world has left Western Australia with unique plants and animals, some species surviving from prehistoric times.

There are more species of wildflowers in Western Australia than in all the rest of the world. Animals range from cuddly koalas to giant man eating salt water crocodiles, not forgetting the ever popular kangaroos and emus. The beautiful Indian Ocean coastline runs from the jagged rocks of the southern capes past world renowned surf beaches and fishing grounds, glittering sandy beaches, marinas and pleasure harbours to the mangroves of the tropical north. You can choose from boisterous surf or mirror calm water while the harvest from beneath the waters provides the state's restaurants with a superabundance of seafood including the world famous crayfish and prawns.

Perth straddles the Swan River a few kilometres from the ocean beaches. With no heavy industry it is virtually pollution free and enjoys an idyllic Mediterranean climate. A major commercial centre for the region, it has a colourful night life, an abundance of first class restaurants, a variety of theatres and concert halls, a world class casino and an entertainment centre which, according to the Guinness Book of Records, is the world's largest purpose built theatre. It is the natural centre for tourism in Western Australia, with excellent communications, frequent air links to international and domestic destinations, numerous international standard hotels and a satellite port, Fremantle, at the mouth of the Swan River.

The city has a booming economy, primarily due to the rising demands for raw minerals from emerging economies. This has led to a mining boom, which is having a great impact not only for Perth, but for the whole state of Western Australia. Having highly-skilled workers, bustling retail services and state of the art infrastructure, economic growth is expected to remain at the current rates for a while or at least until China and other emerging economies are fully developed. As for tourists, more than 2 million interstate and international visitors inject millions into the local economy through hotel and retail services as many world cities are increasingly becoming service economies.

As you can see there is a wide variety of industries where you could gain experience through an internship in Perth.
