Nice is a large city in southeast France, situated in the Provence-Alpes Côte d’Azur region between Cannes and Monaco, very near to the Italian border. With a population of almost 350,000 people it is the fifth largest city in France, and its geographical location means that it attracts huge numbers of tourists every year who come to enjoy the Mediterranean climate. In fact, Nice is the second most visited city in France behind Paris and boasts stunning promenades and beaches, numerous museums and parks, and a wide range of restaurants offering the best in international and niçoise cuisine. Internship in France La Promenade des Anglais counts as one of Nice’s most important and well-loved sights and offers a very pleasant stroll along the Baie des Anges. The promenade dates from the 18th century when the city was the preferred holiday destination of rich Englishmen who came to escape the harsh winters of their own country. Nice also has a wealth of delightful parks, such as the Jardin Albert, and in the pedestrian zone there are a large number of niçois restaurants and cosy cafes, which are perfect places to relax and watch the world go by. La Place Masséna is Nice’s main square and is surrounded by lovely ochre buildings of Italian architecture. Lined with palm and pine trees, it has a typically Mediterranean feel and is an important space for concerts, festivals, public events and the famous Corso Carnavalesque that takes place in February.

The city’s old town, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, enchants all its visitors with its charming narrow passages, cafes, galleries and countless boutiques. Within this area you will also find the Place Rossetti – considered the most beautiful square in Nice thanks to the Baroque cathedral Sainte Réparate, its centre-piece fountain and historical buildings. It is certainly a city highlight and is particularly magical in the evenings when it is a popular venue for live music and offers a great choice of traditional restaurants and ice-cream parlours.

The city is also well-known for its universities and business schools and its great selection of museums – the Musée des Beaux-Arts Jules Chéret, Naval Museum and the Museum of Natural History, to name but a few!

Nice’s economy is principally concentrated on tourism and the restaurant and retail industries, but there are also various business parks and the technology park, Sophia Antipolis, which specializes in electronics, computing and biotechnology.

By completing an internship in Nice you will experience the perfect combination of beach and culture in this stunning cosmopolitan city on the French Riviera.
