Madeleine W., language course and internship at a radio station in Alicant: "I would immediately repeat my stay abroad. The perfect organisation of the language school, accommodation and internship formed the basis for a wonderful summer, during which I considerably improved my Spanish skills. I met lots of open-minded, interesting people, and I am still in contact with many of them today. Alicante is perfect for young people. Sun, beaches, parties and so much fun...I enjoyed it so much that I want to go back next year! I especially recommend staying in a host family - good food and a quick way of learning the language all in one."
Alicante is situated in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula on the Costa Blanca, one of the most beautiful coasts of Spain. The town has 280 000 inhabitants but everything is within easy walking distance; every now and then you will run into someone you know. So, in spite of its size, it feels more like a village than a big town.
The Romans called it 'Lucentum', city of light. This characterises this light-bathed town with palm trees everywhere, which opens itself towards the ocean and has a very pleasant climate. The numerous sandy and rocky beaches, in and near Alicante, offer many leisure time opportunities. You can go sailing and surfing, and for snorkelling there are even nature reserve areas. The mountains around Alicante are more than 1500 metres high, and offer hiking and climbing tours.
People living here still take their 'siesta' seriously, and the word 'stress' is unknown to them. Spending time on the beautiful boulevards and promenades enjoying a 'Horchata' (almond milkshake) or a 'Granizado' (frozen lime drink) is very agreeable.
Alicante has preserved the charm of a Spanish university town in spite of being a centre of tourism on the Costa Blanca. Its nightlife is characterised by the students who keep the countless bars in the old town and in the harbour area alive until sunrise. The town offers a great variety of entertainment with numerous cinemas, concert halls, and theatre stages presenting attractive and diverse cultural programs. There are smart boulevards, a modern marina, the old part of town with its picturesque and interesting architecture, modern shopping malls and, of course the beach with its palm trees. All this will be a lasting memory for visitors.
Alicante is one of the fastest-growing cities in Spain. The local economy is based upon tourism in the beaches from Costa Blanca coast and particularly the second residence construction boom which started in the 1960s and reinvigorated again by the late 1990s. Services and public administration also play a major role in the city's economy.
As you can see there are many opportunities for internships-4U to arrange an internship for you in Alicante.
