Sebastian S., Language course and internship in website development in Vancouver (Canada)
"The 16 weeks in Vancouver were an amazing time, during which I had
many positive experiences.
The organisation was good and the contact with James was very friendly. Sincere thanks to your team.
The language school was really good – I especially liked the teachers and teaching
methods. The school is centrally situated in downtown Vancouver and has modern
facilities. There are lots of Brazilian, Korean and Japanese students there,
and not so many Germans, which I personally found really good.
I completed my 8 week internship in a small web development company. My colleagues were very kind to me and the work was generally interesting. The good thing was that I had contact with native speakers there and could therefore further improve my English. The working environment is more relaxed than in Germany but is nevertheless very productive.
Vancouver is a beautiful city; in particular, the combination of sea and mountains and large city and nature is really fantastic. It is a very multicultural city where the large immigrant population all live together very amicably. The wonderful nature and the really friendly and open-minded people are just some of the things that make this country so amazing.
The best part about the trip is that you get the opportunity to meet so many people from different countries. You gain a small insight into the culture of the countries and the chance to make some real friends.
Many thanks again for your help!"

"Looking back I am very satisfied with my stay and the way it was
organised. My host family lived in the centre of the city, were open, helpful
and
very friendly. The lessons at my school were good, the teachers were
motivated, and I have definitely improved my English. Furthermore, I got
to know
lots
of lovely people there from many different countries.
Lastly, about my internship: I was at a theatre and worked in various
areas there. Sometimes I had to carry out uninteresting tasks, but on
the whole I enjoyed it and I gained lots of new experiences."

"Completing this stay abroad was the best decision of my life. Simply being
away from home and seeing how you cope. I was put to the test straightaway – my
luggage did not arrive at the airport in Vancouver. Therefore I was thrown
in right at the deep end. I then had two days to get used to the time
difference and my new environment before my language course started.
I have never met so many people in such a short space of time before. As everyone is in the same situation, and hardly knows anyone, you quickly just start talking to complete strangers and make new contacts at the school. The lessons were really good and were a lot of fun. You could choose your courses yourself, and depending on the course you got to talk a lot in lessons, learn vocabulary typical of the country, as well as expressions and grammar. After school or at the weekends you could sign up for activities or excursions, where you could meet like-minded people. For example, I took part in a rafting tour, a kayak tour and a trip to Seattle, which were all organised by the school. All three tours were absolute highlights of my stay.
My host family were Canadian and were very friendly. My host mother showed
me everything that was important and was always there with help and advice.
Following my 8 week language course I did an 8 week internship. Unfortunately
I did not have a large choice of where I could complete my internship but
it all turned out really well in the end. I worked at Sombrio, a company that
designs
and sells mountain-biking clothing. Right from the beginning, the whole team
really welcomed me and fully accepted me as a member of the team. The tasks
were not always interesting, but that is work. When we had good weather (between
all the rainy days), we could leave the office at lunchtimes and go on a
mountain bike tour, or go skiing in the winter. There was a very relaxed atmosphere
the
whole time I was there. Also, to clear our heads during work, we would often
play with the table football in the office. All in all, I experienced a great
deal, saw a lot of Canada and met lots of nice people. And most importantly,
my English is loads better than beforehand. It was a successful trip all-round!"
